Supported work unit
Supported work unit for disabled youngsters was established together with Tartu County Government and financed by European Social Fund and Estonian Labour Market Board. 1 June – 15 November, 2008, Tartu County Government and Estonian Agrenska Foundation carried out a project “Supported work unit in Tammistu”. The aim of the project was to build a centre for disabled people especially for youngsters to provide their participation in an open labour market. As a result – disabled young persons, after they have finished school, are not going to stay away from the society or the labour market but will bid in society actively.
During the project 6 youngsters passed the work exercise and practice in Tammistu manor. Mostly gardening work was done but youngsters tried painting the fence as well. The youngsters were introduced to different tools and how to handle and work with them. They learned different handicraft skills.
Special rooms were adapted in Tammistu manor main house to arrange supported employment sessions and individual consultations. Ramp was built to make the manor accessible for people in wheelchair and for other people with movement difficulties.
Although the project has ended, the supported work unit will carry on with its activities. Estonian Agrenska Foundation and Tartu county government have a goal to offer more people with disabilities and less chances to enter open labour market, a job practice to give the people an opportunity to participate in more active worklife.
Those interested could be introduced to the supported work unit in Tammistu three times a week: on Mondays, Tuesdays Fridays at 10.30-14.30. The supported work unit is located in Tammistu manor, in Tartu county.
